Default Interesting blog from someone doing the WOSTEP course

This is a fascinating blog for anyone who's interested in the mechanics of watches rather than just the aesthetics.

http://raulgonzalezblanca.wordpress.com/

It's written by a young guy called Luke who's doing the WOSTEP (Watchmakers of Switzerland Training and Educational Programme) in Manchester. He's doing a 3,000 hour course and is charting his progress in the blog.

There's loads of information and links to interesting illustrations, photo's and videos etc and gives an excellent insight into just how much work and attention to detail goes into making a watch movement. I challenge you not to take a look and be impressed, it's certainly made me appreciate more what I once took for granted.

Cheers,
Gary

Aw man, there goes another few hours of my weekend no doubt!
(And another item on my list of things I wish my careers advisor had suggested 25 years ago when I was a grumpy teenager)
Johnny.

Unfortunately they didn't have a watchmakers course on the Y.T.S. scheme.
They didn't care what you did as long as you weren't drawing dole money, so hairdressing and bricklaying ruled the day, due to the low cost of training!
Careers advisors were as much use as a chocolate tea pot.
Not that I'm bitter or anything

Ha! Watchmaker's YTS! That would have been awesome.
I actually did 3 months on a YTS in retail while working in a fishing tackle shop, until I smashed myself up on a motorbike (see references to girly wrists - double scaphoid fracture and 6 weeks in plaster from finger tip to elbow on both hands at 16yo - they never grew since!)
Luckily part of the course was using these new fangled computer things and I found out I got on better with technology than serving humans with tubs of live maggots - and I've been a geek ever since.
Every cloud...
