Default Rethinking the Uber Watches

As some here will know, I stumbled into the watch savant world with a Rolex 6263. I wasn't crazy about it, but it was worth a pile of money, so I parted with it....and since, I've been doing what we all do. I've been collecting watches.

I admire vintage Swiss movements, automatic or manual. I think I like the off-brands, the little known houses that used Valjoux movements. I'm way more interested in an Enicar Valjoux 72 than I am a Rolex, or even a Heuer. Is that odd? The Lemania cal. 2310 is my grail watch, but I'm happy with any manual or automatic on my wrist.

Am I nuts?

well obviously..... I like how you started off with what some collectors would see as their ultimate catch and have used that to collect all of the others./.... just goes to show that it really is about your watch having a good story and design.... so what have you bought?

I think I've made some good choices, and some less than good choices. Immediately, I bought my dream piece, an Omega PO with the co-axial movement (which may not have been such a solid plan, because it is currently out for servicing). I then bought some unusual Enicars, like this:

Had a late 40s Heuer Triple Date rehabbed--a sentimental spend, but a goer:

But mostly I've been trading, and wearing, tool watches like Seikos and the Spartan I mentioned. I suppose those are the dials that speak to me.

The question I ask myself is: Were I a Rock Star and had unlimited funds, what would I choose to wear? What do I feel an affinity for?

And the answer comes back, always, rock solid tool watches. I may one day setlle on a Marathon SAR on a NATO strap. But then, always, I'm thinking of dials, and movements...a Valjoux .72! A Lemania like this is a grail watch, so much cooler to me, than the Rolex:

Life is too short, and there are so many watches....and I have the attention span of a Labrador Retriever.
